Waldo approaches the leeward mark

It is still time for another new opening page photo. The old shop photo was taken in June 2006. All four of our trailers for 30 foot size boats were full and It was fine but dated. Meanwhile, just down the street at AYC, Wednesday Night Laser races start in May.

Buy Locally!! We believe it is in the best interests of every sailor to have good sailboat supply business nearby. When a little part breaks or falls in the lake Saturday morning, no mail order supply house can get you on the water for the afternoon. Here in Austin, we believe it is in the best interests of ALL of our sailing for EVERY one of us to buy parts following these priorities:

1. Check with Chuck at  http://the-sailboat-shop.com/SBS/index-Web.php

2. Try calling the Sailboat Shop  512-454-7171

3. Ask Bartlett Sails. They have lots of sailboat stuff in stock

3. Check with the guys at West Marine on 620

4. Check with the guys at West Marine on 183

5. Ask us. We stock some lines, paints, fasteners, and fittings and have tons of used stuff.

6.  http://www.kolius-sailing.com/ often supports our local regattas ...Phone 281-867-8200 or 800-276-SAIL (7245)

7. Ask any one of us to order the stuff for you. Usually, we can get a better price than retail, pass some savings to you and still make money.  AND>> We might buy extras so we will have what you or a local friend needs to play next time.

Finally, if you are forced to order from out of the area, make it a point to let the local guys know, "If you had this in stock, I would have bought it from you."

We are near Lake Travis just outside Austin, Texas. The Austin Yacht Club is a few thousand feet behind the cameraman.

The concept of this site has something to do with our belief that if more people knew about sailing, more people would be able to enjoy the fun. Of course, we hope it will also become a place to send our customers for information about our services.

Mildly political stuff.  I couldn't help myself. At least I don't have a Fredblog:

How to talk to a global warming sceptic

And on January 28, 2008. Waldo begins his political career by delivering the Canine reply.

"My fellow Pooches. Tonight the State of the Union is furry and cuddly.  We can do better and we must.

" I believe there must be immediate legislation passed to provide each home with the funding to keep a jar of biscuits not just by the back door but by every door in every house in America...

He continued for 40 minutes. .

Before and After Shots

This shot was taken in late 1991. Lake Travis is flooded to about 710 feet above mean sea level (MSL). Fred took this shot from Psycho the J-24 #187. This is the spillway on Mansfield dam. Its height is 714 above MSL. The next day the LCRA asserted its power as an unelected quasi government agency and arbitrarily closed the lake to everybody but their bureaucrats and  minions.

We have lots of photos taken around the lake at levels ranging from 634 to 710 above MSL

The shot on the right was taken the very next day. The bloom closed and wilted by 4 pm.
