Some Photoshop views of one possible solution for a
Ramp Extension Plan 2011
|
In 2009 The Austin Yacht Club built a large concrete slab next to and beyond the end of its existing ramp. The 15 foot wide slab could serve us well as a walkway next to this proposed extension of the existing North launching ramp launching ramp. This design is suggested as the least expensive solution which will allow extension all the way to a 617 msl waterline. The only concrete currently in the way of construction is the 4 feet of end slop poured underwater in 1984. That section is already partially broken and as it was minimally reinforced with known plans for its eventual removal, there should be no major difficulties related to removing those last few feet of the 1984 pour. The primary questions related to excavation and construction of this ramp pertain to permitting and funding. The author of this page has minimal knowledge of either process but will enthusiastically work to assemble a team of member volunteers to set frames, install reinforcing steel, and pour the actual concrete. As we live in Texas' "Flash Flood Alley" Lake Travis can suddenly re-fill at any moment. The lake level may also continue to slowly drop. This proposal includes a suggestion we act as immediately as possible and build with plans to excavate and pour additional extensions. Assuming a 6 inch slab thickness, we might consider pouring in 16'L x 22'W sections and budget about one 9 yard concrete truck per section.
